Pune, 24th November 2025: The Pune City Traffic Branch has taken action against 178 motorists for drunk driving during a special three-day enforcement drive conducted across the city from November 21 to 23.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav told Punekar News that teams were deployed at 30 checkpoints set up in different parts of the city to intensify surveillance. “Our officers carried out focused checks for three consecutive days. A total of 178 drivers were found driving under the influence of alcohol, and legal action has been initiated against all of them,” Jadhav said.
He added that each offender has been penalised under the Motor Vehicles Act, and further legal procedures are underway. The DCP urged citizens to prioritise road safety, noting that drunk driving remains one of the most dangerous traffic violations.
“Driving after consuming alcohol is a serious offence that increases the risk of accidents. We appeal to all motorists to follow traffic rules strictly and ensure their own safety as well as that of others,” Jadhav said.
