Election Code from December 15? Pune Officials Indicate Poll Timeline
Pune, 29th November 2025: With all key formalities now completed, the path has been cleared for the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation elections. According to senior municipal officials, the model code of conduct is expected to come into force by mid-December, while polling is likely to take place in the second or third week of January.
Political aspirants have welcomed the development after months of uncertainty. The election process had begun earlier this year with the announcement of the new ward structure, followed by ward-wise reservation lists. The draft voter lists have also been published, and objections and suggestions from citizens are currently being processed.
As the final steps are underway, attention is now focused on when the official election schedule will be released.
Prasad Katkar, Deputy Commissioner of the Election Department at the Pune Municipal Corporation, confirmed that the PMC has adhered to the 50 percent reservation cap mandated by the state. “We have fulfilled all necessary requirements, including the reservation limit. There is no obstacle for the municipal elections to proceed,” he said.
Once the State Election Commission declares the programme, campaigning is expected to intensify across both cities as political parties prepare for a competitive civic poll season.
