Pune, 11th December 2025: The state government’s infrastructure committee has cleared the construction of a 39-km, six-lane flyover from Bhairoba Nala to Yavat, a major push aimed at reducing chronic congestion on the Pune–Solapur highway. The approval effectively extends the earlier proposed Hadapsar–Yavat flyover by roughly 4.5 km, beginning the elevated corridor closer to Pune city limits.

The decision was taken on Tuesday during a meeting of the infrastructure committee chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Speaking after the meeting, Fadnavis said the alignment was revised to start from Bhairoba Nala to ensure smoother traffic flow on one of the busiest stretches of National Highway-65. “The flyover will now begin from Bhairoba Nala instead of Hadapsar, increasing its length by about four and a half kilometres,” he said.

The Pune–Solapur highway has witnessed rapid urbanisation in recent years, especially between Hadapsar and Yavat, leading to severe bottlenecks and daily traffic snarls. The state cabinet had in June approved the construction of a six-lane elevated corridor and the widening of the existing surface road to six lanes. Once both projects are completed, officials expect a substantial reduction in travel time and congestion.

Under the approved plan, the project will be executed by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. The state has sanctioned ₹5,262 crore for the project. Toll charges will be imposed on all vehicles after the completion of work to ensure cost recovery under the BOT arrangement.

The selected contractor will be required to finish construction within three years of receiving the work order. Land acquisition responsibilities will also be handled by the MSIDC.

Officials said the long-pending project is expected to ease traffic for thousands of daily commuters and streamline freight movement on the Pune–Solapur corridor, one of Maharashtra’s key arterial routes.
