Pune, 13th December 2025: The city is experiencing an unusually intense winter, with minimum temperatures consistently hovering in the single digits since December 9.

Meteorologists have predicted that this chilly trend is likely to continue until December 16. On Saturday, December 13, Pune recorded a minimum temperature of 8.8 degrees Celsius.

This season, the city has seen a higher number of cold days than usual, with nighttime temperatures frequently dropping below 10 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature so far was recorded on December 11 at 7.9 degrees Celsius, while most nights have seen the mercury around 8 degrees Celsius.

Experts attribute the sharp drop in temperatures to the influence of cold northerly winds sweeping across Maharashtra, combined with global La Niña conditions. These factors have triggered prolonged coldwave-like conditions across several parts of the state since November.

On several occasions, Pune’s nighttime temperatures have been lower than those in Mahabaleshwar, a popular hill station in western Maharashtra, and even occasionally below those recorded in Delhi, underlining the severity of the current cold spell.

In Pune district, the lowest temperature on December 13 was recorded at Haveli at 7.1 degrees Celsius, followed by Baramati at 7.7 degrees Celsius. Other areas reporting single-digit lows included Pashan (8.3°C), Malin (8.5°C), Daund (9.3°C), and Talegaon (9.4°C).

The prolonged cold has begun affecting daily life, with residents braving chilly mornings and evenings, increased use of warm clothing, and a noticeable rise in respiratory and cold-related ailments, particularly among children and the elderly. Farmers have also reported stress on standing crops due to low night temperatures.
