Pune : Ahead of Likely Civic Poll Code, CM Fadnavis to Unveil Multiple Development Projects in Pune on December 15
Pune, 13th December 2025: With the model code of conduct for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections expected to come into force shortly, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is scheduled to inaugurate a slew of major civic and infrastructure projects in Pune on December 15, signalling heightened political and administrative activity ahead of the long-pending civic polls.
Sources indicated that although the projects are spread across various parts of the city, including central Pune and suburban pockets, the government has opted for a single, large-scale inauguration programme. The move follows strong representations by BJP city leaders, who sought a consolidated event to showcase the scale of development works.
PMC Without an Elected Body Since 2022:
The PMC has remained under administrator rule since March 14, 2022, after the term of the elected corporators ended. Since then, the municipal commissioner has been functioning as the administrator, a situation mirrored in several urban local bodies across Maharashtra.
The prolonged delay in civic elections led to legal challenges, following which the Supreme Court directed that all pending local body polls be conducted by January 31, 2026. With the state legislature’s winter session in Nagpur concluding on December 14, political observers believe the election notification could be issued soon.
Projects Worth Hundreds of Crores to Be Launched :
Senior civic officials confirmed that the event, scheduled at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch, will include the inauguration of key infrastructure facilities such as the A and B wings of the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College, new fire stations at Kharadi, Chandni Chowk and Baner, multiple sewage treatment projects, and an Integrated Command and Control Centre for disaster response.
Other projects to be unveiled include 75 km of roads developed for an international cycling event, completion of 40 zones under the equal water supply scheme, and the Nagar Road regional office building.
In addition to inaugurations, the Chief Minister will lay foundation stones for projects estimated at Rs 400–500 crore, including a flyover and grade separator at Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk in Yerawada, new water supply initiatives, and a water purification facility at Wadgaon.
With PMC elections approaching after an extended period of administrator-led governance, political analysts say the ruling Mahayuti alliance, led by the BJP, is seeking to underscore its development agenda. The mega inauguration programme is being viewed as an effort to highlight projects initiated or completed during the current administration, while also reinforcing political messaging ahead of the civic polls.
