Shivajinagar, 14th December 2025: A unique photography exhibition titled “Speaking Photographs” is currently drawing attention at Fergusson College, offering visitors a powerful visual narrative of Pune’s social and cultural fabric. Organised jointly by the National Book Trust and the Pune Shramik Patrakar Sangh (Pune Union of Working Journalists), the exhibition is part of the ongoing Pune Book Festival.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Yuvraj Malik, Chairman and Managing Director of the National Book Trust. Several prominent figures from the media and literary circles were present on the occasion, including Rajesh Pande, Chief Coordinator of the Pune Book Festival, and Brijmohan Patil, President of the Pune Shramik Patrakar Sangh. Senior editors and journalists Sunil Mali, Sunanda Mehta, Arun Nigvekar, Shridhar Loni, Shrikant Sable, Munif Sharma, Shailendra Singh, Sandeep Kolhatkar, Archana More and Aniket Joshi also attended the inauguration.

The exhibition features photographs captured by seasoned newspaper photographers, offering more than visual aesthetics. The images present Pune through multiple lenses, reflecting social realities, political movements, religious practices, education, and environmental issues. Each photograph stands as an independent story, portraying emotions and experiences that resonate deeply with the city’s residents.

Organisers said the exhibition highlights not only technical excellence in photography but also strong social consciousness and a deep connection with people. The photographs serve as a visual documentation of changing times, encouraging viewers to pause, reflect and engage with the city’s lived realities.

Visitors to the exhibition are invited to experience Pune beyond headlines, as the photographs allow them to interpret the city’s character and challenges in a silent yet impactful manner. The exhibition, the organisers said, enables viewers to “read” Pune through images that speak without words.

The “Speaking Photographs” exhibition is open to the public at Fergusson College until December 21. Citizens are encouraged to visit and experience this rare visual journey that captures the soul of Pune and presents the city from a fresh perspective.
