Pune: Yerwada Jail Brawl Leaves Inmate Seriously Injured; Two Prisoners Booked for Attempted Murder
Yerwada,16th December 2025: A violent fight in Barrack No. 1 of Yerwada Central Jail left one inmate seriously injured on Monday evening, prompting police to register a case of attempted murder against two fellow prisoners.
The injured inmate, Vishal Nagnath Kamble (28), a resident of Laxminagar, Yerwada, was attacked around 6:45 pm by Akash Satish Chandalia (30, Yerwada) and Deepak Sanjay Reddy (27, Kamshet). Kamble was immediately shifted to Sassoon General Hospital for urgent medical care.
Police sources said Chandalia had previously been arrested in connection with a murder case in the Yerwada area. All three inmates, Kamble, Chandalia, and Reddy, were lodged in the same barrack in the C.J. division of the prison.
According to preliminary reports, the attackers allegedly used pieces of tile during the assault. Following the incident, the Yerwada Police registered a formal case of attempted murder and initiated further investigations into the brawl.
Authorities are reviewing security protocols within the barracks to prevent similar incidents in the future.
