Pune: PMC Ramps Up Election Preparations as Model Code of Conduct Comes Into Force Ahead of January Polls
Pune, 17th December 2025: With the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) now in effect for the upcoming Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections, the civic administration has initiated comprehensive measures to ensure a smooth, transparent, and rule-compliant poll process.
Scheduled for January 15, 2026, with counting and results on January 16, the PMC elections mark the end of four years under administrative rule. Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram stated that detailed planning has been undertaken to conduct the elections fairly and efficiently, covering everything from voter list management to election-day operations.
Key Measures for Poll Management
-A poll control committee comprising the Municipal Commissioner, Police Commissioner, and Additional Commissioner has been established to monitor compliance with the MCC.
-Video surveillance teams will track rallies, public meetings, and candidate expenditure.
-Rapid-response squads and check-post units will act against violations, monitor voter inducement, and prevent malpractice.
-A one-window online system (nocelection.pmc.gov.in) has been launched to issue No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to candidates without pending tax liabilities within 24 hours.
-Election infrastructure includes 13,200 EVM ballot units and 4,400 control units, with CCTV coverage at all polling stations and additional security at sensitive locations.
-Initiatives to enhance voter awareness and turnout are being prioritised to ensure full civic participation.
The PMC administration emphasized that all actions are being implemented in strict accordance with State Election Commission guidelines, aiming for elections that are peaceful, transparent, and fully compliant with electoral norms.
