Pune Traffic Alert: Road Closures and Diversions for New Year Eve 2025

Pune, 31st December 2025: As the city prepares to bid farewell to the outgoing year and welcome the New Year, Pune Traffic Police have announced changes in traffic arrangements in the Camp and Deccan Gymkhana areas, anticipating large crowds on Mahatma Gandhi Road in Camp and on Fergusson Road and Jangli Maharaj Road. The revised traffic plan will come into effect from Wednesday (December 31) after 5 pm.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav said strict action will be taken against motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police expect large gatherings, especially of youngsters, on Mahatma Gandhi Road, Jangli Maharaj Road, and Namdar Gopal Krishna Gokhale Road (Fergusson Road) for New Year celebrations. Adequate police force will be deployed to manage crowds and ensure public safety. Once crowd density increases, traffic diversions on Mahatma Gandhi Road and Fergusson Road will remain in force until after midnight, when the crowd disperses, Jadhav said.

Traffic diversions in the Camp area

Traffic moving from Y Junction towards Mahatma Gandhi Road will be stopped at 15 August Chowk and diverted towards Qureshi Mosque and Sujata Mastani Chowk.
Traffic from the ISKCON Temple towards Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road and Arora Towers will be closed.
Traffic from Volga Chowk towards Mohammed Rafi Chowk will be closed.
Vehicles in this area will be diverted via East Street towards Indira Gandhi Chowk.
Traffic from Indira Gandhi Chowk towards Mahavir Chowk will be closed, with vehicles diverted towards the Lashkar Police Station.
Traffic from Sarbatwala Chowk towards Mahavir Chowk will also be closed.

Traffic diversions on FC Road and Jangli Maharaj Road

Traffic coming from Kothrud and Karve Road will be stopped at Khanduji Baba Chowk.
Vehicles will be diverted via Law College Road, Prabhat Road, and towards Alka Talkies.
Due to expected crowds on Jangli Maharaj Road, traffic from Jhansi Rani Chowk will be closed.
Vehicles will be diverted via Gokhale Smarak Chowk, internal roads, the Pune Municipal Corporation building area, Omkareshwar Temple, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road.

Mahatma Gandhi Road and Jangli Maharaj Road to be closed
In the Camp area, entry of vehicles on Mahatma Gandhi Road will be prohibited after 5 pm on Wednesday (December 31).
Vehicle movement will be restricted between 15 August Chowk and Arora Towers Chowk on Mahatma Gandhi Road.
On FC Road, vehicular entry will be closed from Gokhale Smarak Chowk to the Fergusson College gate.
These restrictions will remain in force until 5 am.

Action against drunk driving
Traffic police will take strict action against two-wheeler riders and motorists found speeding or driving under the influence of alcohol. Breath analysers will be used to check intoxicated drivers, and the plastic mouthpieces used for testing will be destroyed after a single use and not reused. Motorists have been urged to strictly follow traffic rules, DCP Himmat Jadhav said.

Ban on heavy vehicles
Entry of heavy vehicles into Pune city has been prohibited. Heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter the city until midnight on Thursday (January 1).
