Pune, 24th January 2026: Work on the proposed double-decker flyover at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk and the Maan–Hinjawadi Metro corridor has gained momentum, with the flyover expected to be opened to traffic in the coming days. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has instructed the contractor to prioritise pending works, raising hopes of relief for motorists frequently affected by traffic congestion.

PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Yogesh Mhase, along with Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Deepak Singla, inspected the progress of both the flyover and metro projects. Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan, Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) CEO Anil Saini, PMC officials, contractor representatives, and senior PMRDA officials were present during the inspection.

Highlighting the growing traffic woes in the area, Dr Mhase said the double-decker flyover at University Chowk is slated to be opened at the earliest. He instructed Tata Projects Limited to expedite construction of the Baner-side ramp by deploying additional manpower and resources. He also directed PMC officials to resolve water leakage issues affecting the Pashan-side ramp on a priority basis.

A detailed review of the Maan–Hinjawadi Metro (Line-3) project was also conducted. Technical issues related to metro stations were discussed, with immediate solutions suggested. The status of foot overbridge works at Shivajinagar, Modibaug, and University Chowk stations was also reviewed. The administration emphasised adherence to quality standards and completing the projects within the scheduled timeline.

Once completed, these infrastructure projects are expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and enhance mobility across Pune, Dr Mhase said.
