Pune, 2nd February 2026: The proposed Pune–Hyderabad high-speed rail corridor will operate at a maximum speed of 350 kmph, with an operational speed of 320 kmph, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said following the Union Budget 2026 announcements.

According to the Minister, the high-speed corridor is planned to reduce travel time between Pune and Hyderabad to approximately 1 hour and 55 minutes. The route is part of the government’s proposal to develop seven environmentally sustainable high-speed rail corridors across the country.

The trains are proposed to run on standard-gauge tracks, similar to metro rail systems. Officials said the technology and operational systems are expected to largely mirror those being deployed for the ongoing Ahmedabad–Mumbai Bullet Train project.

Vaishnaw also stated that the Union Budget provides for ₹1.70 lakh crore towards railway infrastructure for both freight and passenger segments. Of this, ₹24,000 crore has been allocated for railway projects in Maharashtra, which includes works related to high-speed and conventional rail infrastructure.

The Pune–Hyderabad corridor aims to link two major urban and economic centres in western and southern India under the proposed high-speed rail framework.
