Pune’s Face Will Change in 3–4 Years, Says Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar
Pune, 12th February 2026: Although the issue of transportation in Pune is difficult, the government is working well to strengthen the infrastructure of the city. Many works like flyovers and expansion of the metro are being started by the government in the city, which will strengthen the infrastructure and help in improving the transportation system. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar expressed his belief that we will see the face of the city change in the next three to four years.
Amitesh Kumar was speaking at an awards ceremony organized by the Pune centre of The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) at Bougainvillea Farms, Vakil Nagar, D. P Road. On this occasion, senior Architects Anurag Kashyap, V. V. Badawe, Narendra Dengle, Ramchandra Gohad were honored by giving the IIA S. K. Belvalkar Award for Excellence in Profession. Along with this, Dr. Asmita Pethe, Vinish Desai and Asmita Joshi, who are working in the field of Architecture, were also honored by giving the IIA S. J. Contracts Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Chairman of the Pune centre of the Indian Institute of Architects Vikas Achalkar, Vice Chairman Shitesh Agarwal, Sameer Belvalkar, Saurabh Jangle were present on the occasion. After the award ceremony, Vikas Achalkar, Shitesh Agarwal and Sandeep Mahajan interacted with the Police Commissioner.
Some buildings of the police station under the Police Commissionerate are on rent. Some buildings are old, the process of renewing them is underway. Amitesh Kumar said that the construction of a new building is currently underway in the Police Commissionerate and its work will be completed in the next two years.
The open space under the Flyover in the city needs to be used for good work. The Police Commissioner pointed out that if that place is beautified, it will add to the beauty of the city.
Architects are creative people, they usually do not do anything wrong, but while they are working, they need to be careful, Amitesh Kumar added. Amitesh Kumar also said that the police administration will ensure that the city’s Architects are not harassed unnecessarily.
While new places are being built in the city, there needs to be enough space for parking cars. Along with that, Amitesh Kumar mentioned that there needs to be enough space for ambulances and fire engines to come and go.
Architects are creative people, so this is a good profession. V. V. Badawe said that there is a lot of opportunity for the youth to do this.
Considering the current rate of population growth, there is a need to plan and create new cities. Ramchandra Gohad said that the youth have an opportunity to do something new by working with organizations like CIDCO and MMRDA and they need to take advantage of it.
