Pune, 17th February 2026: A heated controversy has erupted in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) over a proposal to allocate ₹32.83 crore under Section 72(b) of the PMC Act for various development works in the Parvati Assembly constituency. The proposal, which seeks to secure funds for projects included in the Municipal Commissioner’s budget, was placed on the agenda of today’s PMC General Body meeting for approval.

The controversy stems from conflicting claims regarding the Commissioner’s consent. While the proposal reached the General Body with the approval of the Standing Committee due to its financial nature, PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram stated that he had not approved the proposal during the Standing Committee meeting.

Speaking to journalists, Commissioner Ram said that he would move to withdraw the proposal during today’s session, raising questions about how it was placed on the agenda without the Commissioner’s consent.

The issue dates back to May 2025, when MLA Misal wrote to the PMC administration requesting funds for various development works in the Parvati constituency. Four months later, the Works Department also received a communication regarding the projects. The administration prepared a preliminary financial statement for the works, which was approved by the Finance Committee.

However, the Commissioner allegedly delayed the proposal for five to six months and indicated to senior officials, including then-Works Department Chief Aniruddh Pawaskar and Additional Commissioner Omprakash Divate, that the proposal would not be approved. Despite these indications, the proposal was repeatedly resubmitted for approval.

On February 6, during a Standing Committee meeting, the proposal was recorded as approved and subsequently placed on today’s General Body agenda. Commissioner Ram, Additional Commissioner Divate, and former Works Department Chief Pawaskar have stated publicly that they had no knowledge of how the proposal reached the General Body agenda.

Commissioner Ram told journalists, “Instructions have been given to withdraw this proposal. It was initially submitted six months ago, and at that time it was repeatedly informed in the Standing Committee that it would not be approved. Yet, it appears it was approved in the last Standing Committee without notifying us. An inquiry will be conducted into why it was placed for approval without proper information. In any case, funds will not be released in this manner.”
