Pune: Timely Removal of LPG Cylinders Helps Avert Major Explosion in Mohammadwadi Fire
Mohammadwadi, 7th March 2026: A fire that broke out in the early hours of Saturday damaged a warehouse and four nearby houses in Pune’s Mohammadwadi area, destroying household belongings and several vehicles. However, the quick thinking of local residents, who removed two LPG cylinders from the affected structures, helped avert a potentially catastrophic explosion.
The incident occurred at around 4:30 am near the Krishnanagar Crematorium, when flames were first noticed in a warehouse. The fire quickly spread to nearby huts, triggering panic in the neighbourhood as residents rushed out of their homes and alerted the fire brigade.
According to officials, the blaze engulfed the warehouse and spread to four adjoining houses, reducing household belongings to ashes. Four two-wheelers parked nearby were also completely gutted in the fire, adding to the losses suffered by residents.
In a crucial intervention, locals managed to remove two LPG cylinders from the structures before the fire intensified, significantly reducing the risk of a major explosion and preventing further damage in the densely populated locality.
After receiving the alert, teams from the Pune Fire Brigade rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations. Firefighters worked swiftly to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading to other nearby structures. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.
Officials said the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage. Residents later appreciated the prompt response of the fire brigade, which helped contain the blaze and avert a larger disaster.
