Pune: Man Dies After Lift Cable Snaps in Housing Society, Chairman and 11 Others Booked
Talegaon, 30th March 2026: A young man lost his life in a tragic lift accident at a residential society in the Talegaon Dabhade area of Pune district, raising serious questions about maintenance and safety standards in housing complexes.
The deceased has been identified as Dinesh Surange. According to police, the incident occurred when he was inside an elevator that suddenly malfunctioned and got stuck between the sixth and seventh floors of the building.
During efforts to rescue him, the situation reportedly worsened when the lift’s cable snapped, causing the elevator to plunge downward. Surange sustained critical injuries in the fall and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, doctors later declared him dead.
Following the incident, Surange’s brother filed a complaint at the Talegaon Dabhade Police Station. Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against the chairman of the housing society and 11 other members, alleging negligence in maintaining the lift.
Preliminary information suggests that inadequate maintenance and possible lapses in routine safety checks may have contributed to the accident. Authorities are now examining whether mandatory inspection and servicing procedures were properly followed and if there had been earlier warnings about the condition of the elevator.
Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident, and further legal action will be taken depending on the outcome of the probe. The tragedy has once again highlighted the need for regular inspection and proper upkeep of lifts in residential buildings, where elevators are used frequently by residents.
