Nomadic and Denotified Tribes Study Centre Dedicated at Savitribai Phule Pune University
Pune, 4th April 2026: The dedication ceremony of the Nomadic and Denotified Tribes Study Centre was held at Savitribai Phule Pune University on Friday at the ‘Bhasha Bhavan’ (Language Building) on the university campus.
The programme was inaugurated by the university’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor Parag Kalkar in the presence of the chief guest, Uddhav Kale. Addressing the gathering as the president of the event, Kalkar said universities should not remain merely education-centric but must become society-centric.
He added that the university is working with the objective of establishing various chairs and study centres to better understand India’s rich traditions and to address the challenges faced by society through academic research and dialogue.
Chief guest Uddhav Kale spoke about the historical background and contributions of the Nomadic and Denotified Tribes in India. He also expressed gratitude to the government for taking initiatives aimed at the welfare and development of these communities.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Vilas Adhav, Director of the School of Education and the Department of Education, highlighted the significance of the newly established study centre. He said the centre is envisioned as a ‘Triveni Sangam’ that will bring together the university, its affiliated colleges, and society to work collectively on issues related to nomadic and denotified tribes.
The programme was jointly organised by the School of Education and the Department of Education of Savitribai Phule Pune University. Prof. Dr. Vilas Adhav, Dr. Geeta Shinde, Dr. Nitin Ade, Krishnaji Bhandalkar and Shantanu Lamdhade played key roles in organising the event.
Among those present were Management Council members Ravindra Shingnapurkar, Sandeep Palve and Dr. D. B. Pawar, along with Dr. Sunil Bhange and other dignitaries.
The programme was anchored by Pranav Kadu and Manisha Shinde, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Babasaheb Dudhbate.
