Dr. Sudhir Mehta to Head New Board of Governors at VJTI Mumbai

Mumbai/Pune, 25th April 2026: The Maharashtra State Government has announced the reconstitution of the Board of Governors (BoG) for the Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), one of the state’s premier engineering institutions. In an official order issued by the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Dr. Sudhir Mehta, Chairman and MD of Pinnacle Industries Ltd., has been designated as the Chairman of the Board.

The appointment fills the leadership vacuum created after the previous board’s tenure concluded on December 5, 2025. The state government had been considering new appointments to ensure the continued excellence of the Matunga-based autonomous institute.
A Power-Packed Board

The new board comprises several high-profile leaders from the corporate and academic sectors:
Industry Leaders: The board includes P.V.S. Murthy (former Global Head of Cyber Security at TCS), Subrahmanian Chidambaram (Strategy Head at Cummins), and Rajan Tipnis (President of R.C. Tipnis Consulting Engg.).
Academic Excellence: Prof. B.E. Narkhede from IIM Mumbai joins as a management nominee.
Specialist Representation: Usha Marathe, Global Delivery Partner at Capgemini, has been appointed as the industry/education expert.

Governance Structure
The board is designed to be multi-disciplinary, featuring:
Faculty Representation: Two senior faculty members from VJTI nominated by the Director.
Government & Regulatory Oversight: Representatives from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Director of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra.
Administration: The Director/Principal of VJTI will act as the Member Secretary.

Terms of Appointment
The new board will serve a three-year term, with the exception of the UGC nominee, whose term extends to five years. As per the government resolution, the Chairman and members will be entitled to travel allowances, daily allowances, and sitting fees at par with Secretary-level officers of the Maharashtra Government for board-related activities.
