Pune: Two Children Drown in Farm Pond While Playing in Junnar Village
Junnar, 28th April 2026: In a tragic incident in Junnar taluka of Pune district, two children drowned in a farm pond while playing at Ballalwadi village on Monday afternoon.
The incident took place around 12.30 pm and has left the area in shock, with grief engulfing both families.
According to preliminary information, the children were playing near a farm pond located in the agricultural land when they accidentally slipped and fell into the water.
When the children did not return home for a long time, family members and villagers began searching for them. During the search, the children were found in the pond.
After receiving information, villagers rushed to the spot and alerted police and a local rescue team. Rescue personnel later retrieved both bodies from the pond.
The tragedy has once again raised concerns over safety around farm ponds in rural areas. While such ponds are important for irrigation, lack of fencing or protective barriers often turns them into accident-prone spots, locals said. Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and are conducting further investigation.
