Pune, 1st May 2026: Direct flight services between Pune and Bagdogra commenced on Thursday, marking a major step in enhancing regional air connectivity and linking Western India with the Northeast.

Operated by Air India Express, Flight IX 1248/1249 will run on the Bagdogra–Pune–Bagdogra route five days a week, excluding Tuesday and Saturday. The flight is scheduled to arrive in Pune at 12:25 pm and depart at 1:15 pm.

The new service connects Pune, often referred to as the “Oxford of the East” due to its prominence in education and innovation, with Bagdogra, a key gateway to North Bengal and the Northeastern region known for its tourism potential and scenic landscapes.

Officials said the route is expected to significantly improve travel convenience for students, working professionals, and tourists, while also boosting tourism, trade, and cultural exchange between the two regions.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Airports Authority of India to strengthen regional connectivity and improve access to underserved destinations.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said the new service would play a key role in regional development. “The commencement of direct flights between Pune and Bagdogra is a significant step towards enhancing regional connectivity. This route will not only promote tourism and trade but also bring the Northeast closer to Western India, fostering stronger economic and cultural integration,” he said.
