Pune, 6th May 2026: In the wake of recent serious incidents involving crimes against children reported from the Nasrapur and Parvati areas, Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure has raised concern over citizen safety and urged immediate corrective measures to strengthen law and order in the city.

She discussed the issues with Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar.

The Mayor has stressed the urgent need to ensure that the city’s CCTV surveillance system is fully functional and effectively monitored. She noted that several CCTV cameras across different parts of Pune are currently non-operational, which weakens preventive policing and hampers investigation efforts. Immediate repair and restoration of such systems has been sought as a priority measure.

The Mayor has also called for strict police verification and background checks of all security personnel deployed in residential societies, commercial establishments, and public spaces. She emphasized that no individual should be allowed to work in the security sector without proper verification and formal registration, and that strict enforcement mechanisms must be implemented to prevent lapses.

Alongside infrastructure and personnel regulation, Nagpure has underlined the importance of citizen participation in maintaining safety. She has appealed for greater public awareness regarding neighbourhood vigilance, tenant verification, and reporting of suspicious activities to the local police. According to her, community cooperation is essential for strengthening urban security.

Key demands raised by the Mayor include a comprehensive audit of all CCTV systems in Pune followed by immediate activation of non-functional cameras, mandatory verification and registration of all security guards, strict prohibition on hiring unverified personnel in security roles, and a city-wide awareness campaign on public safety.

Reiterating that citizen security must remain the highest priority, the Mayor has urged the police administration to treat the matter with urgency and take effective action to reinforce safety mechanisms across Pune city.
