Pune: Police Take Nasrapur Accused to Crime Scene at Midnight Amid Fears of Mob Attack
Pune, 6th May 2026: Amid public outrage and concerns that the accused could be attacked, the Pune Rural Police late on Tuesday night took the man arrested in the Nasrapur rape and murder case to the crime scene for reconstruction of events.
The incident relates to the brutal assault and killing of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl in Nasrapur, which has triggered anger across the state. With demands growing for strict punishment, police carried out the operation discreetly to avoid any law and order issues.
According to sources, the accused was taken to the spot around midnight without prior information to the public. During the exercise, investigators recreated the sequence of events, including where the child was playing, how she was taken by the accused and brought to a cowshed where the crime was committed.
Police sources said the entire area was examined in detail and the accused was questioned at the spot to establish the exact sequence of events. A panchnama was also conducted to document the reconstruction, and the findings will be included in the chargesheet.
Given the intense anger among locals, police ensured tight security during the exercise to prevent any possible attack on the accused. The operation went unnoticed as it was carried out while villagers were asleep.
Officials said the investigation has gathered key evidence and efforts are being made to present a strong case in a fast-track court. The accused has been remanded to police custody till May 7.
Meanwhile, the process to appoint a special public prosecutor has been expedited. Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill has sent a proposal to the state law and judiciary department recommending three names, one of whom is likely to be appointed to represent the prosecution.
