Pune, 6th May 2026: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Pune, on Tuesday arrested a police constable attached to Koregaon Park police station for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh to help a complainant avoid legal action in a pending case.

According to the ACB, the accused — identified as Ganesh Kaspate (40), a police havaldar posted at Koregaon Park police station — had initially demanded Rs 2.5 lakh from the complainant. The amount was later negotiated down to Rs 2 lakh, and subsequently to Rs 1.5 lakh.

The complaint stated that the bribe was sought in connection with a case pending against the complainant’s employer in a Hyderabad court, where a non-bailable warrant had reportedly been issued. The accused allegedly assured assistance in avoiding arrest and facilitating relief in the case.

After verifying the complaint on May 5, the ACB laid a trap. On May 6 at around 2.08 pm, the accused was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 1.5 lakh near Boat Club Road in Pune.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Police Inspector Nitin Nikam and ACB Assistant Police Inspector Bharati More.

Following the arrest, a case has been registered against the accused at Koregaon Park police station under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The ACB has appealed to citizens not to pay bribes and to report any such demands to its Pune office through helpline numbers or email.
