Pune Cardiac Surgeon Inducted Into Prestigious Global Thoracic Surgery Association
Pune, 07th May 2026: Cardiac transplant surgeon Dr. Manoj Durairaj has been inducted as a Member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), one of the world’s leading professional organisations in the field of cardiothoracic surgery.
The induction took place during the AATS Annual Meeting 2026 at the McCormick Place in Chicago.
The AATS is internationally recognised for promoting research, innovation, and clinical excellence in cardiothoracic surgery. Only a limited number of Indian surgeons have received membership in the organisation.
Based in Pune, Dr. Durairaj is known for establishing the city’s first heart transplant programme and performing Pune’s first successful Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) implantation for patients with end-stage heart failure.

With more than three decades of experience in cardiac surgery, he has carried out thousands of complex procedures involving both adult and paediatric patients.
Dr. Durairaj also served as President of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgeons for the 2024–2025 term.
Apart from his clinical work, he is associated with the Marian Cardiac Centre and Research Foundation, which provides free and subsidised cardiac treatment to economically weaker patients.
Speaking after the induction, Dr. Durairaj dedicated the recognition to his mentors, colleagues, family members, and patients for their support throughout his career.
