PMPML Chairman Survives Major Road Accident on Pune-Mumbai Highway; Driver and Guard Injured

Pune, 7th May 2026: PMPML chairman and managing director Mahesh Awhad narrowly escaped with minor injuries after the vehicle he was travelling in met with a serious accident near Malavli while he was on his way from Mumbai to Pune on Thursday.

The driver of the vehicle and Awhad’s bodyguard sustained serious injuries in the accident and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Officials said the condition of both injured persons is being monitored closely.

Speaking after the incident, Awhad said the accident occurred after the driver of a mobile mini-van allegedly took a sudden U-turn on the road in a rash manner. “We survived because of sheer luck. The mini-van driver suddenly took a reckless U-turn, which led to the collision,” he said.

The impact of the crash severely damaged the vehicle, with the front portion reportedly getting completely crushed. Due to the severity of the accident, the driver and security personnel had to be rushed to hospital immediately for treatment.

Awhad said he too suffered minor injuries and underwent medical examination following the accident. The mishap led to traffic congestion in the area for some time before local residents and police personnel helped clear the road and shift the injured to hospital.
