Pune, 11th May 2026: A man climbed onto the fifth-floor grill of the District Collectorate office in Pune and threatened to die by suicide, demanding that police register a cognisable offence in a case already recorded as a non-cognisable complaint at Rajgad Police Station under Pune rural police.

According to Senior Police Inspector Santosh Pandhare, in-charge of Bund Garden Police Station, police received a call about a person attempting suicide at the District Collectorate building.

Acting swiftly, a police team from Bund Garden Police Station rushed to the spot. The man was identified as Ram Shivaji Pachkale (30), a resident of Bhor in Pune district.

Police said Pachkale was upset because a non-cognisable offence had been registered at Rajgad Police Station, and he was demanding that a cognisable offence be filed instead. He climbed onto the grill on the fifth floor of the District Collectorate office as part of his protest.

Senior officials from the District Collectorate, officers from the fire brigade, and police personnel counselled the man and assured him that appropriate action would be taken in the matter. Following the assurance, he withdrew his protest peacefully.

Police later brought him to the police station for further action and inquiry.
