Pune: Motorcyclist Dies After Speeding Water Tanker Hits Bike Near Tulapur Phata

Lonikand, 12th May 2026: A 47-year-old motorcyclist died after being hit by a water tanker on the Pune–Ahilyanagar Road near Tulapur Phata. The deceased has been identified as Dattatray Mohan Pandit, a resident of Uruli Kanchan on the Pune–Solapur Road.

According to police, the accident occurred on the night of May 8 when Pandit was travelling through the Tulapur Phata area. A speeding water tanker allegedly rammed into his motorcycle, causing severe injuries. He died before he could receive medical treatment.

Based on a complaint filed by his cousin, Raviraj Pandit (26), at the Lonikand Police Station, a case has been registered against the tanker driver. Police Sub-Inspector Tukaram Survase is investigating the matter.

In the past month, several fatal accidents involving speeding water tankers have been reported in Pune. Earlier, a young engineer died in a tanker accident in the Wanowrie area, while a college student in Mohammadwadi, Hadapsar, and a hotel businessman on the Bibwewadi–Kondhwa Road also lost their lives in similar incidents.

Following these accidents, police conducted a meeting with tanker owners and drivers, instructing them to strictly follow traffic rules and implement necessary safety measures.
