Pune, 14th May 2026: A technical fault in the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company’s (MahaTransco) 220 kV extra high-voltage transmission line between Theur and Magarpatta disrupted electricity supply in several parts of Pune, including Hadapsar, Mundhwa, Camp and Wanowrie, on Thursday afternoon.

According to officials, the fault occurred around 1.20 pm, affecting power distribution and forcing authorities to undertake nearly 50 MW of load management to stabilise the system.

Earlier in the day, both MSEDCL and MahaTransco had carried out a scheduled power shutdown between 7 am and 12 noon for pre-monsoon maintenance and repair works. Power supply was restored around noon after the completion of the maintenance work.

However, shortly afterwards, the transmission line fault led to fresh disruptions across multiple areas.

Officials said electricity demand has risen sharply due to soaring temperatures, resulting in most transmission lines operating under heavy load conditions. This has limited the scope for restoring supply through alternative routes.

Despite the constraints, authorities carried out detailed load management planning and restored electricity supply in several affected areas through alternate arrangements. However, some load management was also required at MahaTransco’s NCL, Kothrud and Parvati extra
high-voltage substations.

As a result, areas including Nanded City, Parvati, Kothrud, Aundh and Baner also experienced disruptions in power supply during the afternoon.
Officials said repair work on the affected Theur–Magarpatta 220 kV transmission line is expected to be completed by 8 pm, following which the power supply is likely to be fully restored.

MSEDCL has appealed to consumers to cooperate and remain patient during the emergency situation.
