Pune: Woman Arrested for Allegedly Killing 82-Year-Old Mother-in-Law

Ambegaon Budruk, 15th May 2026: A 60-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly murdering her 82-year-old mother-in-law following a family dispute in the Bharati Vidyapeeth area of Pune.

The deceased has been identified as Suman Annasaheb Shinde (82), a resident of Samruddhi Residency in Ambegaon Budruk. The accused, Anupama Sanjay Shinde (60), has been taken into custody by the Bharati Vidyapeeth Police.

The complaint in the case was lodged by police constable Mallikarjun Koli.
According to police officials, the accused lived with her husband Sanjay Shinde, their married son, daughter-in-law, and mother-in-law Suman Shinde. Police said Anupama and Suman frequently argued over minor domestic issues.

On Tuesday afternoon, Anupama and Suman were alone at home when another argument reportedly broke out between them around 1.30 pm. During the altercation, Anupama allegedly attacked her mother-in-law with a kitchen knife.

Following the incident, the accused reportedly locked herself inside the house. Family members later alerted the police control room. Police personnel rushed to the spot, forced open the door, and found Suman Shinde lying in a pool of blood inside the bedroom.

The victim was immediately shifted to Sassoon General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

During questioning, Anupama allegedly confessed to the crime, following which she was formally arrested by the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Mohite, Assistant Commissioner of Police Rahul Aware, and Senior Police Inspector Rahulkumar Khilare visited the crime scene. Further investigation is being conducted by Assistant Police Inspector Mithun Pardeshi.
