Shivajinagar, 10th June 2026: A bomb threat email sent to the official email ID of the Pune Mayor’s Office triggered a major security alert on Tuesday, leading to the evacuation of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters and a large-scale search operation by security agencies.
According to preliminary information, the threatening email claimed that the Pune Mayor’s Office, certain locations in Nagpur, and the headquarters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) were potential targets of bomb attacks. The sender allegedly referred to the use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and mentioned specific dates and timings in the message.
Following the receipt of the email, Pune Police, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and the Cyber Crime Cell were immediately alerted. Authorities launched an investigation to verify the authenticity of the threat and trace the person responsible for sending the email.
In an official communication, the Pune Municipal Corporation stated that a bomb threat email had been received concerning the PMC Main Building and the Mayor’s Office. Acting on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, the entire main building was evacuated as a precautionary measure.
A thorough search operation is currently being carried out by the Pune Police Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad. PMC officials said that normal operations at the headquarters will resume only after the search is completed and the premises are declared safe.
Until then, entry to the Pune Municipal Corporation premises has been prohibited.
Officials are also examining the origin of the email and conducting technical analysis to determine whether the threat is genuine or a hoax. So far, no suspicious object has been found, but security has been tightened around sensitive locations as a precaution.
Further investigation is underway.
