Pune: Gym Owner Injured in Firing by Four Juveniles at Sahkarnagar; Suspects Detained
Pune, 11th June 2026: A gym owner was injured after four juveniles allegedly opened fire at him in Pune’s Sahakarnagar area on Wednesday night, police said.
The victim, identified as Yogesh Banekar, sustained two bullet injuries in the attack that took place around 10 pm. He was rushed to a private hospital and is reported to be in a stable condition.
According to police, Banekar was travelling on his two-wheeler along his usual route when four juveniles, arriving on two motorcycles, intercepted him and opened fire. The assailants allegedly fired three rounds, two of which struck Banekar. Police said the attackers were also carrying sharp weapons.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack stemmed from an old rivalry. Police suspect the accused had conducted reconnaissance before carrying out the assault.
Teams from the crime branch and local police rushed to the spot and launched an intensive search operation. Under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Mohite, officers analysed CCTV footage, gathered eyewitness accounts and used technical surveillance to trace the suspects.
In a swift operation, all four accused were detained within an hour of the incident. Police have seized a pistol and other weapons from their possession. A case has been registered at Sahakarnagar police station and further investigation is underway.
