Pune: Spotted Deer Killed After Being Hit By Vehicle in Mulshi
Pune, 12th June 2026: A spotted deer was killed after being struck by a speeding vehicle near Bhukum village in Mulshi taluka, prompting forest officials to once again raise concerns over wildlife fatalities on roads passing through forested areas.
The incident came to light on Thursday after local residents informed authorities about the carcass of an Indian spotted deer lying near Hotel Shivray Dhaba. Preliminary inquiries by forest officials suggest that the animal was hit by an unidentified vehicle and died on the spot.
Personnel from the forest department and Bavdhan police station reached the location and conducted an inspection. Range Forest Officer Nandkumar Shelar and Forest Guard Sagar Hol carried out a spot panchnama before the animal’s remains were sent for a veterinary post-mortem examination.
Officials said the carcass would be disposed of in accordance with departmental norms after the completion of the veterinary procedure.
Pratap Jagtap, Paud Road Forest Range Officer, said such incidents have become a recurring concern, particularly during the summer months. “With water sources drying up and temperatures rising, wild animals often venture out of forest areas in search of food and water and end up crossing roads. This is not the first case in which a wild animal has been killed after being hit by a speeding vehicle,” he said.
Forest officials urged motorists to exercise caution while driving through stretches adjoining forest areas, especially during early morning and night hours when wildlife movement is more frequent.
