Pune: Schoolgirl Dies After Speeding Car Hits Two-Wheeler in Lonikand; Driver Flees
Pune, 12th June 2026: A 14-year-old schoolgirl died after a speeding car allegedly rammed the two-wheeler she was riding with a friend in the Lonikand area on the Pune-Ahilyanagar highway. Police have registered a case against the unidentified driver, who fled the spot after the accident.
The deceased has been identified as Ananya Dadabhau Gawade, a resident of Wadebolhai on the Pune-Ahilyanagar road. A complaint in the matter was lodged by her father, Anil Dadabhau Gawade (40), at the Lonikand police station.
According to police, Ananya and her friend had attended a tuition class on June 10 and were returning home on a two-wheeler around 12.30 pm. Near Mauli Bal Ashram on the highway, a speeding car allegedly hit their vehicle, leaving Ananya critically injured.
Police said the driver did not stop to assist the injured girls and fled the scene immediately after the crash. Ananya was rushed to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Following the accident, police visited the spot and launched an investigation. Officers have examined CCTV footage from the Pune-Ahilyanagar road and are attempting to identify and trace the absconding driver. Assistant Police Inspector Ghorpade is conducting further investigation into the case.
