Pune, 12th June 2026: In a bid to improve traffic management and address monsoon-related challenges, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Special) Omprakash Divte conducted a joint inspection of the Baner Road stretch from Hotel Green Park to University Chowk on Friday. The inspection focused on ongoing road and Metro construction works, as well as infrastructure issues that could affect commuters during the rainy season.

During the inspection, civic officials reviewed several recurring problems and issued directions to concerned agencies, including the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Metro authorities, to undertake urgent corrective measures.

Officials noted that University Chowk and the area near Hotel Mahabaleshwar had witnessed severe waterlogging during previous monsoons due to inadequate drainage. PMRDA and Metro authorities have been instructed to complete necessary drainage-related works within four days to ensure the smooth discharge of rainwater along the entire stretch from University Chowk.

The inspection also highlighted traffic disruptions caused by construction debris lying adjacent to ongoing Metro work near Sindh Society and National Society. Authorities were directed to clear the debris immediately.

Several issues linked to Metro construction between Hotel Green Park and University Chowk were discussed, including traffic bottlenecks caused by road dividers, misaligned dividers between Metro pillars, uneven road surfaces near dividers, damaged footpaths below Metro stations, reduced carriageway width, and a blocked stormwater drain near the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER). Metro officials were instructed to complete the pending works on priority.

At University Chowk, officials observed excavation work carried out by the Water Supply Department near the junction leading towards Aundh. Given the frequent movement of VVIPs through the area, the department has been directed to complete testing and road reinstatement work within two days and restore
the road to its original condition.

Divte stated that Metro-related works have caused difficulties for citizens during every monsoon season. He directed Metro authorities to conduct joint inspections with the Road Department and other concerned departments and resolve issues without delay.

The Ward Office and Drainage Department have also been instructed to immediately clean stormwater drains and chambers across the stretch. Metro authorities have been directed to remove construction debris from footpaths on an urgent basis.

The inspection was attended by Abhijit Ambekar, Superintending Engineer, Road Department; Pune Municipal Corporation corporators Sunny Nimhan and Sapna Chhajed; PMRDA Deputy Engineer Gajanan Patil; PITCMRL Deputy Engineer Sumit Yadav; PITCMRL Project Manager Yogesh Mandra; and TPL Section In-Charge Raj Dhanshetti.

Officials and engineers from PMRDA, PITCMRL, TPL, the Water Supply Department, Drainage Department, and the concerned regional office were also present during the inspection.
