Pune Boy, 13, Hospitalised After Eating Pedha Distributed During Celebration; Dairy Sealed
Vadgaonsheri, 14th June 2026: A family from Vadgaonsheri has lodged a complaint with the Pune Police after their 13-year-old son allegedly suffered food poisoning following the consumption of pedhas distributed in their residential society during a celebratory event.
According to the family, the sweets were shared by a neighbour to mark the purchase of a new vehicle. The pedhas were reportedly purchased from Gurunanak Milk Dairy in Vadgaonsheri and distributed among several residents of the housing society on June 11.
The boy’s aunt stated that soon after consuming the sweet, the child began experiencing health complications. She further claimed that a number of other residents who ate the same pedhas also reported similar symptoms.
The parents alleged that their son developed vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and extreme weakness shortly after consuming the sweet. As his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to a hospital, where he remains under medical supervision.
Seeking action against those responsible, the family submitted a written complaint to the Pune Police Commissioner and Chandan Nagar Police Station. They have requested authorities to investigate the source and quality of the sweets, collect samples for laboratory testing, and examine whether proper food safety standards were followed during the preparation and storage of the products. They have also urged officials to involve the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the probe.
The family stated that the incident has not only affected the child’s health but has also placed emotional and financial strain on the household. They have informed investigators that hospital records and other relevant documents are available to support their complaint.
Speaking on the matter, Digambar Bhogawade, Joint Commissioner, Pune FDA Food, said that action was initiated immediately after the complaint was received. He confirmed that the dairy outlet has been sealed and a stop-work notice has been issued pending further investigation.
Police officials have not yet issued a formal statement regarding the complaint. Further inquiry into the incident is underway.
