Pune, 22nd June 2026: A history-sheeter wanted in a burglary case sustained a bullet injury after a police officer opened fire in self-defence when the suspect allegedly attacked him with a knife during an arrest operation in Ramtekdi on Sunday morning.

The injured accused, identified as Karansingh Rajputsingh Dhudhani (29), was later admitted to Sassoon General Hospital. Police said Dhudhani, who has a criminal record involving around 30 cases of theft, robbery and housebreaking, was being tracked in connection with a burglary reported in Baner earlier this month.

According to police, a team from the Baner police station had reached Ramtekdi around 5.30 am after tracing Dhudhani and his alleged accomplice, Bitusingh Shyamsingh Kalyani. The two had allegedly been identified through CCTV footage collected during the investigation of a burglary registered on June 15.

Investigators said the suspects were seen travelling on a scooter, which was later found to have been stolen and linked to a vehicle theft case registered at Ambegaon police station. Using GPS data from the vehicle, police tracked their movements to Ramtekdi and launched an operation to apprehend them.

During the operation, Dhudhani allegedly attacked Assistant Police Inspector Ganesh Raikar with a knife in an attempt to evade arrest. Raikar suffered an injury to his hand while trying to fend off the assault. Police said the officer then fired his service weapon in self-defence, with the bullet striking Dhudhani on the shin.

While Dhudhani was overpowered and taken into custody, Kalyani initially fled the spot but was subsequently arrested, police said.
