Shivajinagar, 1st July 2026: A police sub-inspector (PSI) attached to the Deccan Gymkhana Police Station has been suspended for allegedly misbehaving at a café during a night patrol and damaging property by smashing coffee cups with a baton.

The suspension order was issued by Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region) Rajesh Bansode after he took serious note of the officer’s conduct, which was captured on video and later circulated widely on social media.

According to the police, the PSI was on night patrol duty on June 6 when he noticed a café on Shirole Road in the Deccan Gymkhana area operating around midnight. The officer allegedly entered the café and used his baton to knock over coffee cups and food items placed on customers’ tables. He also allegedly ordered customers to leave the premises and behaved aggressively with the café staff.

The incident came under scrutiny after a video of the officer’s actions went viral on social media, prompting senior police officials to initiate disciplinary action.

In the suspension order, Additional CP Rajesh Bansode observed that the PSI’s conduct amounted to indiscipline and irresponsible behaviour that tarnished the image of the police force. Taking a serious view of the incident, he ordered the officer’s immediate suspension pending further departmental proceedings.

The action comes amid the ongoing enforcement of prescribed closing hours for commercial establishments in Pune. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has directed that pan shops and roadside food stalls shut before 10 pm, while hotels, bars, and restaurants operate only within their permitted timings.

Senior police officials have also instructed personnel that, while enforcing closure norms, they should not enter hotels or restaurants directly. Instead, they have been directed to call the manager outside the establishment and issue the necessary instructions in a professional manner.

The suspension is being viewed as a strong message from the Pune Police leadership that misconduct and any deviation from standard operating procedures will not be tolerated.
