Pune, 2nd July 2026: In a major crackdown on illegal constructions, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) demolished unauthorized structures and fencing spread across nearly 1.54 lakh square feet in seven parts of the city, including Pune Peth, Wagholi, Kharadi, Manjari, Hadapsar, Kondhwa Khurd and Saibaba Nagar. During the operation, civic officials also seized around 27,000 metal roofing sheets and warned against illegal plotting and unauthorized construction.

The large-scale demolition drive was carried out on Wednesday (July 1) by the PMC’s Encroachment and Unauthorized Construction Removal Department under the directions of the Municipal Commissioner. The operation was supervised by Deputy Commissioner Somnath Bankar.

According to the PMC, the action targeted unauthorized buildings, sheds and compound fencing across the identified locations, clearing approximately 1.54 lakh square feet of encroachments.

The operation involved a substantial deployment of manpower and machinery. Executive Engineer Santosh Lanjekar of the Building Development Department led the technical team along with Deputy Engineers Vivek Dumbwar, Virendra Tilekar, Sandeep Shinde, Kishan Chavan, Sushil Mohite and Ramiz Faras. Officials from the Encroachment Removal Department, including Sainath Nikam, Rakesh Kachi and Hasham Patel, also participated in the drive.

To ensure the operation was completed without any law and order issues, the PMC deployed one police officer, 12 police personnel, 60 MSF personnel, seven JCB excavators, 12 gas cutters, eight breakers and 31 labourers.

Issuing a strong warning after the operation, Deputy Commissioner Somnath Bankar urged citizens not to purchase plots in unauthorized layouts or undertake illegal construction in newly merged villages before the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Development Plan (DP) is approved.
