Pune: Two-Year-Old Dies After Falling Into Rainwater-Filled Drain at Loni Kalbhor; Contractor Booked
Pune, 3rd July 2026: A two-year-old boy died after falling into a nearly three-foot-deep drain filled with rainwater in Loni Kalbhor area, following which police have registered a case against the contractor for alleged negligence.
The incident occurred on June 30 at Kadamwak Wasti in the jurisdiction of the Loni Kalbhor Gram Panchayat.
According to police, an auxiliary drain had been dug alongside an existing nullah to facilitate the flow of rainwater. However, the trench had accumulated rainwater and sewage, and adequate safety measures had allegedly not been put in place.
The child, who lived in a nearby settlement, accidentally fell into the water-filled drain while playing.
Police said the boy’s parents launched a search after noticing that he had been missing for some time. His body was later recovered from the drain.
A case has been registered against the contractor for allegedly failing to ensure adequate safety arrangements at the site. Police said further investigation is underway.
