Eight Booked For Attempted Murder of Indapur Opposition Leader; Bandh Called On July 4

Pune, 3rd July 2026: Eight persons, including six identified accused and two unidentified individuals, have been booked for allegedly carrying out a murderous attack on Indapur Municipal Council’s Leader of Opposition and social activist Anil Pawar on Thursday evening.

The case was registered late on Thursday night at the Indapur police station based on a complaint lodged by Pawar, a resident of Wadar Galli in Indapur. The accused have been identified as Tejas Suryavanshi, Suraj Gosavi, Babya alias Omkar Raut, Chinmay Kulkarni, Swapnil Jabde and Yash Bansode, along with two unidentified persons.

According to the complaint, the attack took place when Pawar was leaving the municipal council premises after attending a meeting. He was allegedly assaulted in what police have registered as an attempt on his life.

Meanwhile, citizens, social organisations, religious groups and activists from Indapur city and taluka have called for Band in Indapur to mark their protest on Saturday (July 4) to protest the attack. They have demanded that the attackers and the alleged mastermind be booked under the provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), along with stringent action under relevant sections pertaining to the attempted murder.
