Pune: Rajmachi, Ingalun Ghat Roads Hit by Landslides Amid Intense Rainfall in Ghat Section
Pune, 4th July 2026: Heavy rainfall over the past two days triggered landslides at two locations in Pune district on Saturday, disrupting traffic on ghat roads. Authorities have launched clearance operations, while the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the district’s ghat sections for the day.
Pune city and several ghat areas, including Lonavala, Tamhini and surrounding hill regions, have been witnessing intense rainfall since Friday, leading to concerns over landslides, waterlogging and road safety.
According to district officials, a landslide occurred on the side road beyond Rajmachi Fort on the Lonavala-Rajmachi route near Katal Waterfall. Debris, including rocks and mud, blocked the road, and a JCB machine was deployed to clear the stretch and restore traffic.
In another incident, a landslide was reported around 1.30 pm at Ingalun Ghat in the Junnar police station limits. Heavy rain caused rocks and mud to slide onto the roadway, reducing traffic to a single lane.
Junnar police informed the concerned department, and efforts are underway to remove the debris and restore normal traffic movement.
The IMD has issued a red alert for the ghat sections of Pune district, warning of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places. Authorities have advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel through hilly areas, as continued rainfall could trigger more landslides and falling rocks.
