Lonavala, 6th July 2026: The Lonavala Municipal Council (LMC) has declared a holiday for all schools within its jurisdiction on Tuesday, July 7, following the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall, with the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places across Pune district.

The order was issued by Ashok Sawale, Chief Officer of the Lonavala Municipal Council, under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, keeping in mind the safety of students as the region continues to witness intense monsoon activity.

According to the official notification, all Anganwadis, primary schools, secondary schools and higher secondary schools under the Lonavala Municipal Council limits will remain closed on July 7.

The civic body said the decision was taken in view of the IMD’s weather alert and the likelihood of continuous heavy rainfall, which could lead to rain-related emergencies and pose risks to students commuting to schools.

While classes have been suspended, the order specifies that headmasters, teachers and non-teaching staff must remain present during office hours and carry out disaster management and other administrative duties as directed by the authorities.

The Lonavala Municipal Council has urged residents to remain cautious, follow weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall.
