Pune Monsoon Update: Deputy CM Reviews Emergency Response; NDRF, PMRDA Teams on High Alert

Pune, 6th July 2026: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Pune District Guardian Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar on Monday night reviewed the rain situation in Pune district during a visit to the District Control Room at the Collector’s Office. She directed officials to implement immediate relief measures in view of the prevailing emergency and assured citizens that the state government and district administration stand firmly with them during the crisis.
Appealing to the public to remain vigilant, Pawar urged citizens not to believe rumours, to strictly follow official advisories issued by the administration, and to immediately contact authorities in case of any emergency.
MLA Chetan Tupe, Zilla Parishad President Virdhaval Jagdale, District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Zilla Parishad CEO Gajanan Patil, Resident Deputy Collector Jyoti Kadam, Superintending Engineer of the Irrigation Department, District Disaster Management Officer Vitthal Banote and other senior officials were present during the review meeting.
Pawar said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a Red Alert for Pune district for July 4, 5 and 6. The district recorded 46.9 mm rainfall on July 5 and 59 mm on July 6. Out of the district’s 158 revenue circles, 27 received more than 65 mm rainfall over the two days.
She said the district administration has deployed two National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, four PMRDA rescue teams, around 300 trained Apda Mitras (disaster volunteers), and five local rescue agencies for relief operations. The State Disaster Management Cell, District Control Room, municipal corporations, PMRDA, police and other government agencies are working in close coordination.
According to the administration, 568 people have been rescued and shifted to safety so far. Officials also reported nine minor landslides and closure of nine roads due to the heavy rainfall.
Several residents have been evacuated from vulnerable locations, including 250 people from Taje village in Maval taluka, besides residents from Bhavadi, Kadamvasti, Vadgaon Shinde, Talegaon Dabhade, Ghorwadi, Ambethan, Chakan, Success Point at Sumbre Nagar, Lonavala and Peth village.
Pawar said an Orange Alert remains in force for the ghat region of the district. As a precautionary measure, schools in Junnar, Ambegaon, Khed, Maval, Mulshi, Rajgad and Bhor talukas have been declared closed.
She also informed that prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 have been imposed until August 31 at major tourist destinations in the Lonavala region, including Bhaje Waterfall, Lohagad Fort, Visapur Fort, Tikona Fort, Tung Fort, Tiger Point, Lion’s Point and Pavana Dam.
With the Indrayani River witnessing increased flow due to heavy inflows from the free catchment area, Pawar appealed to Warkaris to avoid gathering at Dehu and Alandi for the upcoming Palkhi departure ceremonies. Instead, devotees have been advised to join the procession after it enters Pune Municipal Corporation limits, where accommodation arrangements have been made in PMC schools.
Sharing the latest reservoir status, Pawar said Jadhavwadi Dam and Tata Dam in Lonavala are 100% full, while water storage in other major dams stood at Khadakwasla (20.30%), Varasgaon (29.60%), Panshet (31.51%), Temghar (14.99%), Mulshi (32.13%) and Pavana (48.75%).
District Collector Jitendra Dudi briefed the Deputy Chief Minister on the overall situation across the district. Pawar also directed officials to ensure that the families of deceased persons receive the ₹4 lakh ex gratia assistance as per government norms without delay.
