Pune, 7th July 2026: The administration has closed all riverbed roads in the city to vehicular traffic as a precautionary measure after the Mutha River swelled due to continuous heavy rainfall. The city remains under a red alert for Tuesday, with authorities urging residents to avoid low-lying areas and riverbanks.
Continuous rainfall in the Khadakwasla dam catchment has significantly increased inflows into the reservoir system. Officials have indicated that a substantial release of water from the Khadakwasla Dam is likely later in the day, prompting precautionary measures across Pune.
As a result, the Mutha River has reached high levels on both banks, leading the administration to barricade and shut all roads passing through the riverbed to ensure public safety.
The roads on both sides of the river near Bhide Bridge have also been closed to traffic. Barricades have been installed, and motorists have been advised to use alternative routes until further notice.
Authorities have appealed to citizens to cooperate with the restrictions, avoid venturing into the riverbed or flood-prone areas, and follow official advisories as heavy rainfall is expected to continue.
