Pune, 8th July 2026: The irrigation department on Wednesday issued a flood alert for villages along the Indrayani and Sudha rivers as water levels in the Andra dam continued to rise rapidly following heavy rainfall in its catchment area.

As of 10.30 am, the Andra dam was 74.75% full. While no water was being released through the spillway or the irrigation canal outlet (ICPO), officials said the reservoir was filling rapidly and warned that if rainfall intensified over the next few hours, water could begin flowing automatically through the ungated spillway.

The irrigation department urged residents of villages downstream of the dam and those living along the Indrayani and Sudha rivers to stay alert and avoid entering the riverbed. Citizens have also been asked to shift cattle, vehicles, farm equipment and other belongings from low-lying areas to safer locations.

Meanwhile, the Kasarsai dam was 99% full as of 5 am on Wednesday. To regulate the rising water level, the irrigation department increased the discharge into the Kasarsai stream from 1,138 cusecs to 4,495 cusecs at 5.15 am. Officials said the discharge would be increased or reduced depending on rainfall and inflow into the reservoir.

The irrigation department appealed to residents to stay away from river channels and ensure that people living in low-lying areas are alerted as a precaution.
