Dhankawadi, 8th July 2026: Even as the monsoon has brought much-needed rainfall to Pune, residents of Dhankawadi are grappling with a different problem—prolonged power outages. Several parts of the locality have reportedly remained without electricity for over 24 hours, leaving residents frustrated and demanding a permanent solution.

Residents claim that despite lodging multiple complaints with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), they have received no definite timeline for the restoration of power.

According to Barjinder Singh, a resident of Dhankawadi, the issue has persisted for nearly a month.

“There was no electricity for around 18 hours on Saturday, July 4, and now we’ve been without power for over 24 hours again. We’ve filed several complaints, but every time we’re told there’s a problem with the incoming supply or the power lines,” he said.

Responding to the complaints, MSEDCL Public Relations Officer Vikas Puri said the utility has received multiple complaints from the area and has attempted to restore supply through alternate substations. However, he said the recurring disruptions are being caused by damaged distribution lines affected by continuous rainfall.

“We have tried supplying electricity through alternate substations, but the problem lies with the power lines, which tend to develop faults due to rainwater,” Puri said.

When asked about the pre-monsoon maintenance carried out during May and June, Puri clarified that the work primarily focused on transformers and substations, and not the distribution lines that are now causing the repeated outages.

Residents, however, said repeated assurances from the electricity utility have not resulted in a lasting solution. They claim that although numerous complaints have been registered over the past month and they have repeatedly been informed that the issue would be resolved, prolonged outages continue to disrupt their daily lives.

Several residents have also tagged MSEDCL on its official social media handles, highlighting frequent power fluctuations and extended outages in the locality. In response, the utility has consistently acknowledged the complaints, stating that they have been registered and are being attended to. Residents, however, say the responses have remained largely unchanged while the outages continue to recur.

MSEDCL said efforts are underway to restore power through alternative arrangements and assured residents that the electricity supply would be resumed once the technical fault is rectified. As of Wednesday evening, residents said they were still awaiting a stable power supply and a permanent solution to the recurring outages.
