CCTV Shows Terrifying Moment Banyan Tree Crushes Two Women in Pune’s Parvati Area
Parvati, 11th July 2026: Two women were injured, one of them seriously, after a large banyan tree was uprooted and fell on them in Pune’s Parvati area on Friday evening following continuous rainfall. The incident occurred near Bhagwat Hall and was captured on CCTV.
According to officials from the Pune Fire Brigade, the uprooted tree also trapped an autorickshaw, a motorcycle, and a car beneath it. Firefighters removed the fallen tree and cleared the road, restoring traffic movement in the area.
The seriously injured woman has been identified as Ujjwala Maruti Polekar (51), a resident of Janata Vasahat. She sustained severe injuries after the tree fell directly on her. Another woman, Deepa Fapale (50), also suffered injuries in the incident.
After receiving information about the mishap, officers Amol Kardekar and Nilesh Mane from the Janata Vasahat Fire Station rushed to the spot with their team. By the time firefighters arrived, local residents had already shifted both injured women to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Speaking about the incident, D.S. Polekar, husband of Ujjwala Polekar, said she was walking home when the tree suddenly collapsed without any strong winds. He said she suffered a head injury and sustained injuries to three vertebrae. She is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital.
Demanding preventive action, Polekar urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to conduct a comprehensive survey of dangerous and aging trees across the city and remove those that pose a threat to public safety, especially during the monsoon season.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of old trees in Pune amid persistent monsoon rains.
