Nine Detained After Tourist Family Assaulted

Nashik, 15th July 2026: Police have detained nine people in connection with the alleged assault, molestation and robbery of a tourist family at the Bhavali Dam waterfall in Igatpuri, Nashik district.

According to police, the family was visiting the popular tourist spot when an argument with a group of men allegedly turned violent. The accused reportedly assaulted members of the family, vandalised their vehicle and robbed them. A woman from the family was also allegedly molested during the incident.

Based on the family’s complaint, Nashik Rural Police have registered a case under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The charges include robbery, outraging the modesty of a woman, attempt to murder, unlawful assembly and causing property damage.

Police said nine accused have been detained so far and are being questioned. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.

The incident, which reportedly took place at the Bhavali Dam waterfall, a popular monsoon destination in Igatpuri, has sparked concerns over tourist safety at crowded picnic spots across Maharashtra. Police said efforts are underway to identify if any other individuals were involved in the attack.
