Pune: 18-Year-Old NEET Aspirant Dies by Suicide in Hadapsar; Police Investigating Cause
Hadapsar, 17th July 2026: An 18-year-old girl preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Hadapsar on Friday morning. The incident has shocked the local community, while police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to her death.
The deceased has been identified as Anushka Chougule, a resident of Sapron Hill Society, Mahadwadi, Hadapsar.
According to the Kalepadal Police, information about the incident was received at around 9:30 a.m. on Friday. Police personnel immediately reached the spot, conducted a preliminary inquiry, and sent the body for post-mortem examination as part of the legal procedure.
Officials said no suicide note has been recovered so far, and the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be established.
Anushka was preparing for the NEET, India’s national entrance examination for admission to undergraduate medical courses. As the incident occurred shortly after the announcement of this year’s NEET results, there has been speculation that examination-related stress may have been a factor. However, police have clarified that no such conclusion has been reached and that all possible angles, including personal reasons, are being investigated.
Speaking on the case, a police official said:
“The facts behind the incident will become clear only after the investigation is completed. We are examining the case from all possible angles.”
The Kalepadal Police have registered the case and said further details are expected to emerge after the investigation is completed and the post-mortem and forensic reports are received.
