Sus, 18th July 2026: Residents have raised concerns over the slow pace of construction and inadequate safety measures at the grade separator project connecting Pashan–Sus Road to the highway at Sus Khind in Baner. They allege that poorly secured barricades and prolonged construction have created safety hazards for both pedestrians and motorists.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) began the project several months ago following long-standing demands from residents of the Pashan and Sutarwadi areas for a direct highway connection. However, locals claim the work has progressed slowly, causing daily inconvenience and increasing the risk of accidents.

The stretch is frequently used by residents for morning and evening walks. According to locals, the heavy iron barricades erected around the construction site have not been properly secured. On Sunday, strong winds allegedly caused one of the barricades to topple, injuring a passerby. Residents have urged the civic administration to ensure that all barricades are firmly installed to prevent similar incidents.

The ongoing construction has also affected traffic movement. As sections of the connecting road remain incomplete, motorists travelling towards the highway are often forced to drive on the wrong side of the road, increasing the risk of accidents, residents said.

PMC officials, however, said the project was delayed due to the extensive excavation required during the initial phase of construction.

Shivani Yadav, Junior Engineer, PMC, said, “The work slowed down because of the large-scale excavation involved in the project. However, the grade separator is expected to be completed by December. Barricades have been installed as a safety measure. We have not yet received any report of an accident caused by a fallen barricade. Nevertheless, the contractor will be instructed to reinforce and secure the barricades to prevent such incidents.”
