Pune: PMC Introduces Digital Attendance in Civic School to Curb Absenteeism, Parents to Receive Real-Time Updates
Pune, 25th July 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a pilot digital attendance system at a municipal school on Sinhagad Road as part of its efforts to tackle chronic absenteeism and reduce dropout rates among students.
Under the new system, student attendance will be recorded online, with parents receiving regular updates, enabling closer monitoring of attendance and improving communication between schools and families.
PMC officials said the system will be rolled out in phases across the civic body’s 250 schools after the pilot. Principals, teachers and administrative staff will be trained to use the platform before its wider implementation.
The civic body’s education department runs Marathi, English, Urdu and Kannada-medium schools, catering to nearly one lakh students, largely from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
Despite several initiatives—including scholarships, direct benefit transfers and financial assistance for educational material and special equipment—officials said absenteeism and dropout rates continue to be a concern in municipal schools. The initiative aims to bring students back to school.
